This short film was made by our good friends over at Donkey Stone Films. It shows artist Chris Lewis Jones making two works in the style of Jackson Pollock. The abstract expressionist style and heavy use of jazz is indicative of Pollock’s practice, however unlike Pollock, Chris was sober when he went to work. This event was conceived and delivered on Feb 13th 2010 as part of the Workers’ Educational Association’s commitment to the Nottinghamshire Loves Learning project.
Although a bit old now I still enjoy the fluidity of the paint and the absolute conviction of action by the artist.
Jackson Pollock is a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. During his lifetime, Pollock enjoyed considerable fame and notoriety. He was regarded as a mostly reclusive artist. He had a volatile personality, and struggled with alcoholism for most of his life. Pollock died at the age of 44 in an alcohol-related car accident. How very romantic.
